You see an advertisement for a new brand of sneakers. This ad claims these shoes are “the most comfortable in the world” with the gist of the copy reading something along the lines of, “OMG they will literally alter the course of your life.”

This new shoe brand is priced at $98 and looks a little like $58 Vans.

Later, your friend tells you about a new brand of sneakers. They claim that these shoes are the most comfortable in the world and “OMG they will literally alter the course of your life.”

3 Challenges to Create Good Gossip:

A) Make your product or service so good that people want to tell everyone about it. You want them to feel like they’re solving the world’s problems by talking about this brand.

B) Make your product or service connected with “status” or “belonging” amongst your audience. You want them to feel that their status and connections are raised when they talk about this brand.

C) Make your product or service good enough that people think it’s worth 10x what they paid for it. You want them to feel that this brand isn’t cheap, but it’s worth a lot more than they paid for it.

How might your brand look different if you face these three challenges?
